Research profile
Published research on metabolic
DSIP. Little published research addresses this area for this compound.
DSIPNootropic
Scores summarise published research, most of it laboratory and animal work. They describe what has been studied, not results in people. For research use only.
Evidence profile
EarlyOlder animal work and small 1980s human studies; receptor never identified.
Grades describe how much of each kind of research exists, not what a compound does. Conservative by design.
Cited findings
Isolated from rabbit cerebral venous blood, it enhanced delta EEG activity after brain infusion.
Double-blind studies in insomniacs examined single and repeated doses on night sleep and waking function.
A 2006 review concluded its link to sleep was never further characterised and its receptor remains unknown.
Key literature
Reviews
Discovered in 1977 during sleep research — and nearly 50 years later its receptor is still unknown.
Each vial contains 5mg of lyophilised DSIP, supplied as a sterile powder for reconstitution. Delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP, emideltide) is a nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) isolated in 1977 from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits during studies of sleep, and named for enhancing slow-wave (delta) EEG activity after brain infusion. Small human sleep studies followed in the 1980s, but its receptor and gene have never been identified and a 2006 review called it "a still unresolved riddle" — which is exactly why it remains of research interest. It holds no registration as a medicine in South Africa in this form and is supplied here strictly as research material. Findings described are from published laboratory, animal and clinical-research literature and are not statements about outcomes for any reader.
Mechanism, as studied
DSIP’s mechanism is unresolved: it was named for its EEG effect, but no receptor or gene has been identified.
