Hormone, anabolic & androgen-receptor research compounds
Clomiphene Citrate
Also known as Clomid · clomifene
A selective oestrogen-receptor modulator that raises LH, FSH and testosterone by blocking oestrogen feedback — used off-label in male hypogonadism and infertility.
In 60 seconds
Registered for female ovulation induction; used off-label in men, supported by systematic reviews. Meta-analyses summarise effects and adverse events; a 2025 study reported reduced IGF-1 after clomiphene in men.
- A meta-analysis of clomiphene’s effects on testosterone in hypogonadal men.
- A meta-analysis of clomiphene’s effects on semen quality and fertility.
- Reported lower IGF-1 levels after clomiphene, proposed via oestrogen-SOCS-3 signalling.
Mechanism
Clomiphene is a mixture of zuclomiphene and enclomiphene isomers. Blocking oestrogen receptors at the hypothalamus increases gonadotropin release and therefore endogenous testosterone and spermatogenesis.
