Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH)
Also known as: FSH · follitropin
The pituitary hormone that grows ovarian follicles and supports sperm development in the testes.
FSH acts on the Sertoli cells of the testes, which nurse developing sperm, and on the granulosa cells of ovarian follicles. Together with LH it completes the signal the gonads need for fertility.
In clinical fertility research, FSH activity is the variable that most influences follicle growth and the later stages of sperm production.
