SS-31

Also known as: Elamipretide · MTP-131 · Szeto-Schiller 31

A mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide (elamipretide) studied for protecting the inner mitochondrial membrane and cellular energy.

SS-31 (elamipretide) is a synthetic tetrapeptide that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it binds the lipid cardiolipin. It is one of the few peptides designed specifically to target the mitochondria.

By stabilising cardiolipin it is studied for protecting the electron transport chain, reducing reactive-oxygen-species production and supporting cellular energy under stress — placing it in the cellular-energy and longevity research categories alongside MOTS-c.
