Reconstitution Troubleshooting
When a reconstitution does not go to plan: foaming, cloudiness, undissolved powder, floating particles and bubbles in the syringe — what each one means and exactly how to respond.
Most reconstitutions are uneventful, but when something looks wrong it is important to know whether you are looking at a harmless cosmetic issue or a sign the peptide is compromised. Reacting correctly saves good material and stops you from relying on bad material.
This guide is a diagnostic reference for the common reconstitution problems. Each step describes a symptom, what causes it, and the right response — from "carry on" to "discard". It complements the reconstitution and diluent guides.

STEP-BY-STEP
Foaming on the surface
Foam is caused by agitation — usually blasting water onto the powder or shaking the vial. A little foam from a careful mix will settle on its own; let the vial rest. To avoid it, add water gently down the glass wall and swirl rather than shake.
Tip: Foam itself is mechanical, not always ruinous — but heavy foaming means the peptide took shear stress it should not have.
Powder not fully dissolving
Some peptides dissolve slowly. If powder remains after swirling, set the vial down for a few minutes and swirl again gently — repeat as needed. Do not shake or heat to force it. Given time and gentle swirling, most slow peptides go into solution.
Cloudy or milky solution
A correctly reconstituted peptide is clear. Cloudiness usually means the peptide has partially denatured — often from heat, shaking, or an old or compromised vial. A cloudy solution should be discarded, not used.
Tip: Clear = good. Persistently cloudy = discard. This is the most important call in troubleshooting.
Floating particles or specks
Visible particulate that does not dissolve indicates either introduced contamination or degraded material. A solution with persistent floating particles should be discarded rather than drawn from.
Discolouration
A solution that has taken on a colour where it should be clear is a warning sign of degradation. Compare against a fresh mix; if it is discoloured, discard it.
Bubbles in the syringe
Air bubbles in the barrel are a drawing problem, not a solution problem. Tap the bubbles to the top, expel them back into the vial, and re-draw to your exact mark. A bubble means you draw less liquid than the units suggest.
Cosmetic versus compromised — the key distinction
Usually cosmetic / recoverable: light foam that settles, slow-dissolving powder that clears with patient swirling, and air bubbles in the syringe (a drawing issue you simply clear). These do not mean the peptide is ruined.
Signs to discard: persistent cloudiness, floating particles that will not dissolve, and discolouration. These point to denaturation, contamination or degradation, and the material should not be relied on.
When in doubt, the clarity test is your anchor: a healthy reconstituted peptide is clear and particle-free. Anything that stays cloudy, coloured or full of specks after settling should be discarded rather than used.

My peptide solution is foaming — is it ruined?
