What SS-31 is

The cardiolipin-binding mitochondrial tetrapeptide — the first of its kind to win a US approval, in 2025, for a rare mitochondrial disease.

Each vial contains 10mg of lyophilised SS-31, supplied as a sterile powder for reconstitution. A 50mg size is also listed. SS-31 (elamipretide, also MTP-131 / Bendavia) is a synthetic, cell-permeable tetrapeptide (D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2) that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane and binds cardiolipin, the phospholipid that anchors and organises the electron-transport chain. In ischaemic kidney models it preserved cristae architecture and speeded ATP recovery, and it is one of the most-studied tools for probing cardiolipin and mitochondrial bioenergetics. In September 2025 elamipretide received accelerated approval in the United States for muscle strength in Barth syndrome, a rare cardiolipin disorder. It holds no registration as a medicine in South Africa in this form and is supplied here strictly as research material. Findings described are from published laboratory, animal and clinical-research literature and are not statements about outcomes for any reader.

03How should research peptides be stored upon receipt?

Peptides should be stored at -20°C in a sealed, dry environment. Once reconstituted, solutions should be stored at 4°C and used within 30 days, or aliquoted and stored at -80°C for longer-term stability. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

04How long does delivery take in South Africa?

Orders are packed and dispatched within 1–2 business days and delivered door-to-door by tracked courier anywhere in South Africa. A tracking number is emailed to you when the courier collects. Standard courier is R130.
