Acetate Salt

Also known as: peptide acetate · TFA salt · salt form · net peptide content

The salt form peptides are supplied as; net peptide content is slightly below the raw weight because of the counter-ion.

Synthetic peptides are almost always supplied as a salt — commonly an acetate salt — because the purification process leaves a counter-ion associated with the peptide’s charged groups. This makes the powder stable and handleable.

It matters for accuracy: the "net peptide content" is slightly less than the raw powder weight, since part of the mass is the counter-ion (and bound water). A quality Certificate of Analysis states the salt form and, ideally, the net peptide content.

Acetate is generally preferred over trifluoroacetate (TFA) salts for research where the counter-ion should be inert.
