Reconstitution

Also known as: reconstitute peptides · mixing peptides · peptide dilution

The process of dissolving a lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptide in a sterile solvent such as bacteriostatic water before study.

Reconstitution is the process of returning a lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptide to liquid form by adding a sterile solvent — almost always bacteriostatic water — so a precise concentration can be measured out for research.

The solvent is drawn into a syringe and directed slowly down the inside wall of the vial, not squirted straight onto the peptide pellet, which can denature it. The vial is then swirled gently, never shaken, until fully clear.

The volume of water chosen sets the concentration: the same peptide amount in less water is more concentrated per unit volume. A reconstitution calculator removes the arithmetic and prevents dosing errors in research.
