A peptide deliberately modified from a natural sequence to improve stability, selectivity or potency.
An analog (or analogue) is a compound whose structure is deliberately derived from a natural molecule with one or more modifications — substituted residues, added protecting groups, or altered termini.
In peptide research the goal is usually to improve on the native molecule: greater metabolic stability (a longer half-life), better receptor selectivity, or higher potency. Tesamorelin is a stabilised analog of GHRH; TB-500 is an analog based on a Thymosin Beta-4 fragment.
Because an analog differs from the natural sequence, its identity and purity are confirmed against its own defined structure on the Certificate of Analysis.
