Mechanism & Biology

Copper Peptide

Also known as: copper peptides · GHK-Cu · copper tripeptide

A peptide complexed with a copper ion; the best-known is GHK-Cu, studied for skin remodelling and hair support.

A copper peptide is a peptide bound to a copper(II) ion, where the copper is integral to the molecule’s biological activity rather than an incidental impurity. The archetype is GHK-Cu.

Copper is a required cofactor for enzymes involved in collagen and elastin cross-linking and in antioxidant defence, which is central to why copper peptides are researched for skin firmness, wound healing and hair-follicle support.

Because the copper is part of the active complex, copper peptides behave differently from their copper-free counterparts.
