Nootropic

Also known as: cognitive enhancer · smart peptide · neuroprotective

A substance studied for supporting cognition — focus, memory, clarity — often via neurotrophic or neuroprotective pathways.

A nootropic is a compound studied for supporting aspects of cognition such as focus, memory, learning and mental clarity, ideally with a favourable safety profile. The peptide nootropics are of particular research interest.

Peptide nootropics such as Semax and Selank are studied for effects on neurotrophic factors (like BDNF and NGF) and on dopamine and serotonin signalling — pathways associated with cognition, mood and neuroprotection.

The term overlaps with "neuroprotective" where the research focus is guarding neurons against stress rather than boosting performance.
