How specifically a compound acts on its intended target and few others — the basis of a "clean" research effect.
Selectivity is the degree to which a compound acts on its intended target while leaving others alone. A highly selective peptide binds mainly one receptor; a non-selective one hits several, producing off-target effects.
It is a central research goal because it separates a clean, well-defined effect from a messy one. Ipamorelin, for example, is studied specifically for its selectivity in releasing growth hormone with minimal effect on other hormones.
