Oxyntomodulin
Also known as OXM
A natural 37-amino-acid gut hormone that activates both the GLP-1 and glucagon receptors — the template for the dual-agonist drug class.
In 60 seconds
Endogenous hormone and research tool; oxyntomodulin-based analogues are in late-stage development. As a short-lived native hormone, research administration has been brief; class effects follow GLP-1/glucagon biology.

Mechanism
Released from intestinal L-cells after meals, oxyntomodulin combines GLP-1-receptor effects (satiety, insulin) with glucagon-receptor effects (energy expenditure). Survodutide and mazdutide are engineered from this idea.
