AOD-9604
Also known as AOD9604 · hGH fragment 176-191 · Tyr-hGH 177-191
A modified C-terminal fragment of human growth hormone (residues 177–191 plus an N-terminal tyrosine) studied for fat metabolism without GH’s growth or glucose effects.
In 60 seconds
Reached phase 2 obesity trials in the early 2000s; not approved as a medicine. Development-era trials reported it as tolerated; it is detected in anti-doping testing.
- In obese mice, chronic AOD9604 increased fat oxidation and reduced body weight, and the effect was not mediated by the GH receptor.
- Long-term hGH 177-191 treatment reduced body-weight gain and adipose mass in ob/ob mice.
- Studied intra-articular AOD9604 with or without hyaluronic acid in a rabbit collagenase osteoarthritis model.
Mechanism
The 177–191 region of GH is associated with lipolytic activity. AOD-9604 was designed to mimic that fat-metabolism effect without activating the full GH receptor programme, so it does not raise IGF-1.
Research status
Reached phase 2 obesity trials in the early 2000s; not approved as a medicine. Also studied in an animal osteoarthritis model.
