Research peptides for cosmetic formulators in South Africa
South Africa has a serious indie cosmetics scene: small-batch formulators in Cape Town and Johannesburg making serums and creams for local brands, pharmacies and their own labels. Peptides are the ingredient class those formulators are asked for most and understand least, because the supplier data sheets rarely cite the papers.
This page is for the formulator at the bench. It covers the peptides with cosmetic-science literature worth reading, what that literature measured, and the formulation questions that follow: solubility, copper chelation, pH stability, preservation and penetration. It is a research and formulation briefing, and the raw materials we supply are for laboratory and formulation research.
The efficacy literature for cosmetic peptides is led by GHK-Cu, which has human trials on collagen, elastin and dermal thickness and gene-expression work on skin remodelling. Acetyl octapeptide-3 (SNAP-8) follows with clinical studies on expression-line measures, including newer microneedle-patch delivery work. Behind them sit dozens of signal and carrier peptides with in-vitro fibroblast data only, which a formulator should weigh accordingly.
The formulation literature is where the real craft lives. Copper peptides chelate and discolour in the wrong base; short peptides degrade at the wrong pH or under the wrong preservative; penetration of anything above a few hundred daltons through intact stratum corneum is poor, which is why delivery systems from liposomes to dissolving microneedles fill the recent papers. Antioxidants such as glutathione add their own redox-stability problems.

GHK-Cu 20 g powder
Research vial
GHK-Cu as a 20 g research powder for batch formulation work. The compound's human trial literature on collagen and elastin is the strongest of any cosmetic peptide; the formulation literature on chelation and colour stability is where a formulator's questions actually sit.
Acetyl octapeptide-3, the neurotransmitter-modulating peptide. Clinical studies evaluated wrinkle measures, with microneedle delivery as the recent focus. A standard ingredient in expression-line formulation research.
Studied in human trials for skin-brightening measures and as the main intracellular antioxidant. In an emulsion it brings redox-stability questions that the formulation literature addresses directly.
The α-MSH tripeptide studied for switching off NF-κB signalling in keratinocytes. It appears in formulation research on reactive and inflamed skin, almost entirely from cell and animal models.
Formulators in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban receive bulk powders in sealed, labelled research packaging from our Johannesburg hub, usually within one to two business days with The Courier Guy. Twenty-gram lots are often ordered with vials and typically exceed the R2,500 free-shipping threshold. Lyophilised peptides and powders do not need a cold chain in transit; storage guidance per compound is on the product page. PUDO lockers are available at checkout for studios without daytime reception.
The copper complex is blue by nature. Colour shifts or precipitation indicate the copper is being chelated by another ingredient or the pH has moved. The formulation literature covers compatible chelators and pH windows.
Do you supply a certificate with bulk powder?
Yes. Each lot carries an independent Janoshik Analytical certificate stating identity and HPLC purity. Unpublished certificates are available on request.
Can peptides penetrate intact skin?
Poorly, above a few hundred daltons. That is why delivery research (liposomes, microneedles, penetration enhancers) dominates recent cosmetic-peptide papers.
Do you advise on finished products or claims?
No. We supply research ingredients and point to the literature. Finished-product compliance and claims are the formulator's own responsibility.
Is SNAP-8 interchangeable with acetyl hexapeptide-8?
They are related but distinct peptides with separate clinical studies. Use the one the paper you are reading actually tested.
