Ampoule

Also known as: ampule · ampoules · glass ampoule

A sealed single-use glass container snapped open at the neck — an alternative to a stoppered multi-use vial.

An ampoule is a small glass container sealed entirely in glass, opened by snapping off the scored neck. Unlike a stoppered vial it has no rubber cap, so it is a single-use format with nothing to re-enter.

Some solvents and solutions are supplied in ampoules. Because the glass neck is snapped open, a filter needle is often used when drawing the contents to catch any tiny glass fragments.
