How much peptide is dissolved per unit of liquid — set by the water volume chosen at reconstitution.
Concentration is the amount of peptide per unit volume of solution, usually expressed in milligrams per millilitre (mg/mL). It is determined entirely by how much bacteriostatic water is added to a fixed amount of peptide.
The same 5 mg vial reconstituted with 1 mL is five times more concentrated than with 5 mL. The chosen concentration then decides how many syringe units correspond to a given amount — which is exactly what a reconstitution calculator works out.

Reconstitution
The process of dissolving a lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptide in a sterile solvent such as bacteriostatic water before study.
Bacteriostatic Water
Sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, the standard solvent for reconstituting peptides so a multi-use vial stays sterile.
