Humanin

Also known as: mitochondrial-derived peptide · HN

A mitochondrial-derived peptide studied for cytoprotection, metabolic regulation and neuroprotection in ageing research.

Humanin is a mitochondrial-derived peptide (MDP) — encoded within the mitochondrial genome, like MOTS-c — first identified for its apparent protective effect on neurons.

Its research spans cytoprotection, metabolic and insulin-related signalling, and neuroprotection, which is why it features in both the longevity and cellular-energy literature. It is one of the founding members of the mitochondrial-derived peptide family.
