Mechanism & Biology

Sirtuin

Also known as: sirtuins · SIRT1 · NAD-dependent deacetylase

A family of NAD+-dependent enzymes tied to ageing, DNA repair and metabolism — central to NAD+ longevity research.

Sirtuins are a family of enzymes that regulate gene expression, DNA repair and metabolism, and are strongly associated with healthy ageing. Crucially, they depend on NAD+ to function.

That dependence links sirtuins directly to NAD+ and NMN research: because NAD+ declines with age, sirtuin activity is thought to fall with it, which is a core rationale of the longevity and cellular-energy literature.
