WADA S0 (Non-Approved Substances)
Also known as: S0 · non-approved substances · WADA S0 · S0 catch-all
The WADA Prohibited List catch-all: any pharmacological substance with no current regulatory approval for human therapeutic use is banned at all times.
Section S0 of the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List covers "non-approved substances": any pharmacological substance that is not addressed by another section of the List and has no current approval by any governmental regulatory health authority for human therapeutic use — for example drugs in pre-clinical or clinical development, discontinued drugs, designer drugs and veterinary-only substances. S0 substances are prohibited in and out of competition, and all are Specified Substances.
The 2026 List (in force from 1 January 2026) names BPC-157 as an example under S0, alongside DNP and troponin activators. Because the wording is general, most research peptides that have never been approved as medicines anywhere — Epitalon, Pinealon and KPV among them — fall under S0 even though they are not named.
For a tested athlete the practical meaning is simple: an unapproved research compound should be treated as banned. In South Africa, athletes can check with the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS).
