SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3)

Also known as acetyl octapeptide-3 · acetyl glutamyl heptapeptide-3 · snap 8 · snap8

An eight-amino-acid extension of Argireline, designed as a topical expression-line peptide that targets the same SNARE complex.

In 60 seconds

A cosmetic ingredient. Patch studies that included it reported good dermal tolerability; systemic data do not exist because it is a topical cosmetic ingredient.

  • The parent peptide: Argireline was designed to interfere with SNARE-complex formation and showed anti-wrinkle activity in an emulsion study.
  • A 12-week clinical study of a hyaluronic-acid microneedle patch whose actives included acetyl octapeptide-3 alongside other peptides.
  • A placebo-patch comparison in 24 healthy adults tested a dissolving microneedle patch containing acetyl octapeptide-3 with other actives.

Mechanism

Like Argireline, SNAP-8 mimics part of the SNAP-25 protein and is proposed to interfere with assembly of the SNARE complex, the machinery that releases neurotransmitter at the nerve–muscle junction. Less signalling is the proposed route to softer expression lines.

Research status

A cosmetic ingredient. Published human studies test it inside multi-ingredient formulas (often Korean microneedle-patch products), so its stand-alone effect is not isolated.
