Thymulin
Also known as FTS-Zn · facteur thymique sérique · thymic factor
A zinc-dependent nonapeptide hormone produced only by thymic epithelial cells, studied for immune and neuroendocrine regulation.
In 60 seconds
Preclinical and physiological research; not an approved medicine. No human therapeutic safety data.
- Reviews thymulin production by thymic epithelium and its neuroendocrine regulation.
- Describes thymulin as a nonapeptide whose activity depends on bound zinc.
- Reviews thymulin’s anti-inflammatory effects in lung-disease models.
Mechanism
Thymulin needs bound zinc for activity; it promotes T-cell differentiation and interacts with the neuroendocrine system. Preclinical work extends to anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and, recently, age-related myeloid inflammation.
Research status
Preclinical and physiological research; not an approved medicine.
