Tissue-repair, gut & immune-signalling peptides
ARA-290 (Cibinetide)
Also known as cibinetide · ARA290 · pyroglutamate helix B surface peptide
An 11-amino-acid peptide from erythropoietin’s helix B that activates the "innate repair receptor" without stimulating red-cell production.
In 60 seconds
Phase 2 trials in sarcoidosis- and diabetes-associated small-fibre neuropathy; preclinical work in kidney, autoimmune and neuro models. Phase 2 studies reported it as well tolerated over the trial periods; no long-term data.
- A 28-day phase 2b randomised trial of 64 subjects measured corneal nerve fibre abundance with cibinetide.
- Describes the innate repair receptor (EPOR/CD131) and the rationale for targeting it in neuropathy.
- In a kidney ischaemia–reperfusion model, ARA290 attenuated injury without EPO’s haematopoietic effect.
Mechanism
ARA-290 targets a heteromer of the EPO receptor and the β-common receptor (CD131), switching on anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective signalling while avoiding EPO’s haematopoietic (and thrombotic) effects.
Research status
Phase 2 trials in sarcoidosis- and diabetes-associated small-fibre neuropathy; preclinical work in kidney, autoimmune and neuro models. Not approved.
