Aliquot

A measured portion of a solution divided off for separate use — e.g. splitting a reconstituted vial to limit freeze-thaw cycles.
An aliquot is a precisely measured sub-portion divided from a larger sample. In peptide handling, a reconstituted vial is sometimes split into several small aliquots so that each can be used or frozen independently.
The purpose is to protect the material: dividing into aliquots means only one portion is repeatedly warmed and entered, sparing the rest from the freeze-thaw cycles and repeated exposure that degrade peptides.
