A tripeptide (glutamate-cysteine-glycine) that is the body’s master antioxidant, studied for detoxification and skin.
Glutathione is a tripeptide composed of glutamate, cysteine and glycine. Present in virtually every cell, it is often called the body’s "master antioxidant" because of its central role in neutralising reactive oxygen species and regenerating other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E.
It features an unusual gamma peptide bond between glutamate and cysteine, and its free thiol (–SH) group is what does the redox work. Research interest spans hepatic detoxification, immune function and skin brightening.
