Freeze-dried. Peptides are supplied as a lyophilised powder/pellet for stability, then reconstituted before study.
Lyophilised means freeze-dried. Lyophilisation removes water from a frozen peptide solution under vacuum by sublimation (ice turning straight to vapour), leaving a dry powder or pellet.
Peptides are supplied in this form because a dry, water-free solid is far more stable in transit and storage than a solution — it dramatically slows the hydrolysis and microbial spoilage that degrade peptides in water.
A lyophilised vial is stable refrigerated (and often long-term frozen) until it is reconstituted with bacteriostatic water for research use.
