How well a peptide resists degradation over time under given conditions — the property that dictates storage and handling.
Stability is a compound’s resistance to chemical or physical change over time. For a peptide the main threats are hydrolysis of peptide bonds, oxidation of vulnerable residues, and aggregation.
Stability is why peptides are supplied lyophilised, kept cold and, once in solution, used within a defined window. Structural tricks such as terminal capping and cyclisation are used specifically to improve it.
