Mounjaro® vs Ozempic® — Tirzepatide vs Semaglutide, Molecule by Molecule

The most common comparison in this category is really a comparison of two molecules. Here is what actually differs — and what we do and do not supply.

WHAT WE DO NOT SUPPLY

We do not sell Mounjaro®, Ozempic® or any prescription medicine, and we are not a pharmacy. Our tirzepatide is a research compound for laboratory use only — not a medicine, and not for human or veterinary use.

Research-grade GLP compounds from LWL

Live price and stock. Lyophilised research vials, Janoshik HPLC purity certificates, dispatched from Johannesburg. For laboratory research use only.

The molecule behind Mounjaro® is tirzepatide. LWL supplies research-grade tirzepatide in 30 mg and 60 mg vials — alongside retatrutide and eloralintide — for laboratory research.

Mounjaro® is Eli Lilly’s tirzepatide; Ozempic® is Novo Nordisk’s semaglutide. Both are once-weekly injectable incretin medicines, but they are built on different pharmacology. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Tirzepatide is a dual agonist, acting on the GIP receptor as well as the GLP-1 receptor — a single peptide engineered to engage both incretin pathways.

Each has its own clinical trial programme: the SURPASS and SURMOUNT trials for tirzepatide, and the SUSTAIN and STEP trials for semaglutide. The two molecules have also been compared head to head in a dedicated trial, SURMOUNT-5. Those trials studied the manufacturers’ medicines in clinical participants; their findings belong to those products and are not a description of any research vial.

Of the two molecules, tirzepatide is the one we hold — as a research-grade lyophilised vial for laboratory use, with a Janoshik HPLC purity report. It is not Mounjaro®, not a substitute for it, and not for use in a person. We do not stock semaglutide.

Questions

What is the main difference between Mounjaro® and Ozempic®?

The molecule. Mounjaro® contains tirzepatide, which acts on two receptors (GIP and GLP-1). Ozempic® contains semaglutide, which acts on one (GLP-1). Both are prescription medicines; only a clinician can advise on either.

Have they been compared directly?

Yes — the SURMOUNT-5 trial compared tirzepatide and semaglutide head to head. Its results describe the manufacturers’ medicines in trial participants, not any research compound.

Do you sell either?

No. We supply tirzepatide and retatrutide as research-grade vials for laboratory research only. We do not stock semaglutide, and we do not sell any branded medicine.
