MGF (Mechano Growth Factor)
Also known as IGF-1Ec · IGF-IEc · PEG-MGF · mechano-growth factor
A splice variant of the IGF-1 gene (IGF-IEc) produced in response to mechanical load, with a distinct E-domain peptide studied in tissue repair.

- Reviews how mechanical stress regulates IGF-I splice isoforms and the evidence for an MGF role in repair.
- Reviews MGF as a mechanically sensitive growth factor highly expressed in chondrocytes.
- In mechanically injured human ACL fibroblasts, MGF improved cell mobility via Rac1 and RhoA pathways.
Mechanism
Alternative splicing of IGF-1 exons yields the IGF-IEc isoform, up-regulated by mechanical stress in muscle, bone, tendon and cartilage. Its unique E-domain peptide is studied for effects on progenitor-cell proliferation separate from mature IGF-1.

Safety signals in the literature
No human safety data. Increased IGF-IEc expression has been linked to smooth-muscle hypertrophy in fibrostenotic Crohn’s disease tissue.
