A desiccant is a drying agent — commonly silica gel — packaged alongside a moisture-sensitive product to absorb any water vapour and keep the environment dry.
Because water drives peptide hydrolysis, a desiccant helps a lyophilised vial stay dry and stable in storage. It is part of the same logic that keeps peptides freeze-dried until the moment they are reconstituted.
