The scaffold of collagen, elastin and other molecules that surrounds cells — the structural target of skin and repair research.
The extracellular matrix (ECM) is the network of proteins and molecules — collagen, elastin, proteoglycans and more — that fills the space between cells and gives tissue its structure and mechanical properties.
Remodelling the ECM is central to wound healing and to skin quality. Copper peptides and matrikine peptides are studied for how they signal cells to rebuild and reorganise this matrix.
