Collagen is the body’s most abundant protein, forming the structural scaffold of skin, tendon, ligament, cartilage and bone. In skin it provides firmness and resilience, and its decline is central to visible ageing.
It is the endpoint much peptide research targets: copper peptides such as GHK-Cu and cosmetic peptides such as Matrixyl are studied for signalling fibroblasts to synthesise collagen, rather than supplying it as a raw material.
