Growth-hormone secretagogues & GH-axis peptides
Sermorelin
Also known as GRF 1-29 · GHRH(1-29)NH2 · Geref
Synthetic GHRH(1-29) — the shortest fully active fragment of natural growth-hormone-releasing hormone, once a registered paediatric medicine.
In 60 seconds
Formerly approved (Geref) for diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic GH deficiency in children; the branded product was withdrawn commercially. Clinical-era reviews reported it as well tolerated.
- Reviews sermorelin as the shortest synthetic GHRH peptide with full activity, used diagnostically and therapeutically in paediatric GHD.
- Describes sermorelin (GRF1-29) and PEGylation strategies to extend its short half-life.
- A 2026 review of GH-axis peptides marketed as research compounds, contrasting clinical evidence with online self-administration practices.
Mechanism
Sermorelin is identical to the first 29 amino acids of human GHRH and stimulates GH release from the anterior pituitary through the GHRH receptor, preserving the pituitary’s own pulsatile feedback.
Research status
Formerly approved (Geref) for diagnosis and treatment of idiopathic GH deficiency in children; the branded product was withdrawn commercially.

Safety signals in the literature
Clinical-era reviews reported it as well tolerated. Recent reviews flag unregulated self-administration of GH-axis peptides as a growing concern.
Legal status (South Africa)
Not a registered medicine for human use in South Africa unless SAHPRA-registered under its own name; growth-hormone secretagogues are prohibited in sport under the WADA list. Supplied, where we stock it, strictly for laboratory research.
