How to Verify Peptide Quality
With research materials, quality is everything — and you can actually check it. Here’s exactly what to look for so you know what’s really in the vial.
Why quality is the whole game
With research peptides there’s no medicine-style approval standing behind the product, so the single biggest variable is simply whether the vial contains what the label claims, at the stated purity. An impure or mislabelled batch behaves unpredictably no matter how good the peptide itself is.
The good news: unlike vague "trust us" claims, peptide quality is measurable, and a serious supplier will show you the measurements.
HPLC — the purity check
HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) is the standard test for how pure a batch is. It separates everything in the sample and reports the target peptide as a percentage — you’ll often see figures like ≥98%. A clean HPLC result with a high number means very little else is in the vial.
A missing or low purity figure is a red flag. So is a supplier who can’t produce the actual chromatogram.
Mass spectrometry — the identity check
Purity tells you the batch is clean; it doesn’t prove it’s the right peptide. That’s the job of mass spectrometry, which weighs the molecule extremely precisely. If the measured mass matches the theoretical mass of the intended sequence, the identity is confirmed.
Together, HPLC (purity) and mass spec (identity) answer the two questions that matter: is it clean, and is it what it says?
The Certificate of Analysis ties it together
Both results live on a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) — a batch-specific document you should be able to request for anything you buy. No CoA means no verification, full stop. Our separate guide on reading a Certificate of Analysis walks through every line.
